DI Thomas Samm – about me
My life so far has been strongly influenced by life in the countryside and by agriculture and forestry.
I spent my childhood on my parents’ farm. The first step of a job-related education led me to the horticultural school in Langenlois for one year. After that I transferred to the Höhere Bundeslehranstalt für alpenländische Landwirtschaft in Raumberg for five years.
After graduating, I joined my parents’ farm. While working, I completed a degree in agriculture at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, specialising in plant cultivation.
Despite the possibility of a professional career in administration or in the private sector, I decided to further develop my parents’ farm for several reasons. Even before and after taking over the farm in 1993, I focused on grassland farming and the breeding of genetically hornless Simmental cattle in suckler cow husbandry due to the topographical conditions.
In the meantime, I can look back on more than 30 years of professional experience in the maintenance and keeping open of alpine grassland areas as well as in cattle breeding and herd management.
In summary, I am a trained crop farmer, practising animal breeder and hobby forester.
With confidence, patience and serenity, I lead a nature-loving as well as resource-conserving life and look forward to the surprises in another stage of my life.
